             Frank Doak was born the 7th of  September 1886 in Highland Center, Iowa.  His parents were Reasoner & Sarah Doak.  Frank was married at the Methodist Church in Farson, Iowa  the 9th of October 1907  to Miss Hillian Bender.

             Hillian Bender was born near Highland Center, Iowa the eldest child of George William Bender and Elizabeth McCormick on the 21st of September 1886.  Her father George was an implement store owner and lived his entire life in Iowa.  George’s father Conrad Bender was a shoemaker in Ioka, Iowa and immigrated as a child from Hechingen Germany.

             Hillian’s mother Elizabeth was the daughter of the Hon. William McCormick, an Iowa State legislator in 1848 and the donator of family land to the McCormick Cemetery.  Elizabeth’s mother Elizabeth was born in Indiana the daughter of Jacob Rhoda Stevens. Jacob Stevens moved the family from Indiana to Iowa in 1848.           -see “McCormick Branch” page-

             A lifetime resident of the area, she was a member of the Hedrick United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.  On the 9th of October 1907 she married Mr. Frank Doak at the Methodist Church in Farson, Iowa.

Text Box: Long Illness Ends for Frank Doak: Obituary Hedrick Journal 7 October 1964 front page Frank Doak, 78, retired building contractor, died at St. Joseph Hospital in Ottumwa Monday at 2:15 pm following an extended illness. He had been hospitalized one week……...He had resided in the Hedrick community all his life. Survivors besides the widow include 2 sons, 5 daughters, 17 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2pm at the Hedrick Methodist Church….Burial will be in the McCormick Cemetery, (Wapello county, Iowa.) Text Box: Obituary: Mrs. Hillian Hazel Doak, 85, died Friday at 5:15pm at Jefferson Square Manor in Ottumwa. She was born September 21, 1886, near Highland Center, the daughter of George and Elizabeth McCormick Bender. A lifetime resident of the area, she was a member of the Hedrick United Methodist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary. On October 9, 1907, she married Frank Doak at Farson. He died in 1964. Surviving are 5 daughters, one son, 17 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, one brother Paul L. Bender of Pheonix Arizona, an one sister Mrs. Marguerite Venator of Ottumwa. 2 sons, one grandchild, one brother and 2 sisters also preceded her in death. The services will be Sunday at 1:30pm at the Hedrick United Methodist Church..….burial will be in McCormick Cemetery near Highland Center. (Mrs. Doak passed away the 2nd of June 1972 from leukemia) Text Box: On the 6th of October 1957, Frank and Hillian celebrated their Golden wedding anniversary with a cooperative dinner and reception. It turned into a family reunion of the Frank Doak family with all but one living child present. Fifteen grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren also attended. The reception table was covered with a linen cloth over 100 years old, having been Mr. Doak’s grandmother Butler’s…. There were 70 guests present.
