According to his grandson, Wallace Umbaugh’s obituary, Robert William and his family lived in a farm house 3 1/2 miles southwest of Hedrick, Iowa near Highland Center.   The “History of Wapello County 1914” states that Robert had purchased the farm in 1858, being the “second man to receive a deed to the place”.  The 1880 census lists Robert as retired from farming and living with his daughter Elizabeth Whipple’s family, after his wife's death.
